  1. Goa Liberation Day is celebrated on 19 December to commemorate the state’s liberation from Portuguese rule in 1961.
  2. United Nation’s Arabic Language Day also known as World Arabic Language day (WALD) is annually observed across the globe on 18 December to honour the language and the cultural diversity of the Middle Eastern region. The theme of Arabic Language Day 2022 is “The Contribution of the Arabic Language to Human Civilization and Culture”.  
  3. Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India celebrates the Good Governance Week during the 19-25 December every year. 
  4. On 16 December, 2022 Harvard University named Claudine Gay, a dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, as its new president, the first African American to hold the post at the prestigious university.
  5. On 18 December 2022, the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Mormugao (D67), the second of four ‘Visakhapatnam’-class destroyers, also known as the ‘Project 15B’ class of stealth guided-missile destroyers, was commissioned at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, Maharashtra.
  6. Sargam Koushal created history as she finally won the Mrs World 2022 title after 21 years while competing for India in the pageant. The 32-year-old won the competition in Las Vegas after defeating competitors from 63 other nations. 
  7. FIFA has announced that Morocco will host the next Football Club World Cup from 1-11 February, 2023. 
  8. Kolkata will witness the Tramjatra event in February 2023 that will celebrate 150 years of its iconic tram and renew hope that this non-polluting mode of transport does not become entirely extinct. 
  9. Michelle Obama’s nonfiction book ‘The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times’ has been published by Crown Publishing. 
  10. For the first time, the Khelo India Women’s tournament will feature Track Cycling. 
  11. India, the President of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), has launched a ‘Group of Friends’ to promote accountability for crimes against peacekeepers. 
  12. Spanish Tennis Player, Rafael Nadal has been named the Men’s International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Champion 2022 for the 5th time after an outstanding 2022 season.
  13. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a meeting of the Eastern Zonal Council in Kolkata on 17 December, 2022. 
  14. On 19 December 2022, during the Google for India 2022 (8th edition) conference, Google announced a partnership with DigiLocker to bring local storage of government-issued IDs on android devices. 
  15. The District Tourism Promotion Council, Kozhikode has applied for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag for the famous Beypore Uru (boat). 
  16. The Union Health Ministry has held a meeting with domestic and international pharmaceutical companies for the introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine against cervical cancer among children.
